To achieve better brand-building among juniors and seniors, we changed our direct mail strategy this year from postcards to packets, allowing us to send keepsake items such as an Illinois magnet, a book of student stories, an application guide to Illinois (for Seniors), and a college prep guide (for Juniors). We also include a handwritten note from Andy Borst, the Director of Admissions.

Senior packet mail date is August 1, 2019; junior packet mail date is October 15, 2019.

Our overall goal with the messaging is to be helpful and build a positive impression with all students, even those that will not end up applying. Our college planning guide for juniors certainly takes this approach as it talks more broadly about getting ready for college. The Journeys book allows high school students to get a good view of what college life is like. It’s specific to Illinois, but there is inspiration within for all future college students.
